Roland Fantom 0/06/07/08 Music Workstation - Demo / Tutorial 15: i-ARP for Fantom via STEP LFO?

Image
Roland Fantom 0/06/07/08 https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLirh7S2cI3fjFxxu9RI1L4DrjI1Gd1cts Do you need a DAW? In this video we are going to show you a workaround to play multiple arpeggios on your Fantom. It uses the STEP-LFO to create step changes on Pitch using Curve = 1. In this way as you have 4 partials per tone you can create 4 arpeggios running at the same time per tone. You know that the Fantom can layer up to 16 tones, therefore you can have 4 X 16 = 64 arps at the same time. It is a trick and it doesn’t have the same functionalities of a normal arpeggio, but it is decent enough to allow you to create movement in your scene and therefore giving the Fantom some of the functionalities that are not there yet using the arpeggio. The video show you how to enable STEP-LFO, how to set destinations, and how to change the pitch for each step. In this particular example we create a bass that is changing octave up and down with a supersaw arpeggiating over a chord in UP mode. I ho...

Roland Fantom 0/06/07/08 Music Workstation - Demo / Tutorial 14: Introduction to Arpeggio

Image
Roland Fantom 0/06/07/08 https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLirh7S2cI3fjFxxu9RI1L4DrjI1Gd1cts Do you need a DAW? In this video we are going to show you how to use the arpeggio functionality of the Fantom 0. In my view it is the weakest area of the Fantom as it doesn’t allow multiple arpeggios with different settings to be played for different zones. Granted it allows you to play the same arpeggio for multiple zones but I find this very basic. Also the number of styles is very limited to 128 compare to other workstation that have more than 10,000 presets… Nevertheless it is still an arpeggio and as you can see at the end of the video you can use it in combination with the rhythm pattern to play along nicely… There is a workaround to simulate multiple arpeggio and we will explore that on the Step LFO video. In this video we show you how to activate the arpeggio on zones and change the settings such as velocity, motif, hold, shuffle etc. I hope you enjoy and do not forget to subscribe...

https://apps.apple.com/gb/app/ooda-portable-midi-sequencer/id1612549576 My first impression of OODA was ok maybe it is too simple; but when I started to use it well, I couldn’t stop having fun with it and create interesting arrangements and loops, so well done Ryan, it is a nice solid app. This video demonstrates: - How to get started with ODA - How to record notes and chords in the sequencers - How to use multiple outputs inside AUM - How to drive CC messages for automation - How to use Wormholes - How to create note patterns for each line output Enjoy and do not forget to subscribe!

Roland Fantom 0/06/07/08 Music Workstation - Demo / Tutorial 13: Piano Roll Automation, Fade Changes

Image
In this video we are going to show you how to use the automation controls inside the Piano Roll. It is quite straightforward as you edit a pattern and select the button for automation. Then when you are inside the automation screen, you can select a target for automation like Volume or cutoff and then draw in the changes as a waveform. You can also use points instead of drawing lines but as you can see in the video it is much easier to see how things change when you are using lines. In this way, if you use volume as a target and 2 zones with one zone having a piano and the other zone having an electric piano, you can fade out the piano and fade in the electric piano. All of this is possible as you automate the volume to fade out for the piano while you automate the volume to fade in for the electric piano. Of course you need to pay attention to the measures and ensure that things are in synch, but this way it is easier that for example having to use your hands to change the volum...

Roland Fantom 0/06/07/08: Microphone Input settings + Vocoder

Image
In this video we are going to show you how to use your Microphone and record your voice through your Fantom. You can change the settings from Line to Microphone Phantom Power as input. Remember to activate audio in either via the sampling function or via editing the effects through the menu settings. You can apply Noise suppression which is very useful to remove that background noise, be careful on unwanted feedback. You can also apply low cut filter and further Level and pan settings. In the video we show you how to change reverb settings as well alongside applying a delay effect to your voice. The vocoder is quite powerful in the Fantom; you can change settings for your carriers, the individual bands, even down to microphone sensitivity and HPF… Lots to learn and have fun… I hope you enjoy and do not forget to subscribe.

Roland Fantom - Import and split samples on the keyboard on a single tone

Image
In this tutorial we are going to show you how you can import 2 samples and split them along the keyboard using only 2 partials of a single tone… in this way you have access to lots more polyphony… We start by loading the samples into the USB memory, then we go to sampling and there we select keyboard sample edit. From there we access one of the menu and select import to get the 2 samples into the internal memory of the Fantom. Once that is done we can edit a tone and import the 2 samples one for each partial using the OSC PCM type of synth. We use one of the advanced feature of the pro editing to access the keyboard settings where you can select for each partial how they respond to keys and velocity including fading. Finally we take the opportunity to add some delay effects. You can also set partials to respond to velocity as well, which is kind of cool… Remember, there are 4 partials so in this case another 2 for 2 more samples or to overlay a different synth engine… super… I ho...

Roland Fantom - Is Z-Core powerful?

Image
In this tutorial we are going to start our journey on how to program the Z-Core. This is just an introduction as there is lots to cover. We start creating a user tone and then go straight into the OSC Parameters. We explain the Common parameters, the oscillator types and oscillator parameters. We introduce envelopes for pitch, filter and amplitude as well LFOs for modulation of pitch, filter and amplitude. Key concept of this video is around the use of partials as a fundamental block of Z-Core and how all the parameters including unison impacts polyphony. The Fantom 0 has 256 voices mono or 128 stereo. If you are not careful in creation of tones you will run out of polyphony very quickly. I hope you enjoy and do not forget to subscribe.

Roland Fantom - Record quick Loops

Image
In this tutorial we are going to explain how to record loops using the sequencer of the fantom. It is so easy, first we select a number of presets we want to use per track, than we record the drum part using the rhythm patterns and then go through in real time recording all the other tracks. You can create new patterns, mix them, erase parts as you need, quantise, change the time signature, the time settings etc. I hope you enjoy and do not forget to subscribe.

Roland Fantom - Piano Roll

Image
In this tutorial we are going to explain how to edit patterns via the Piano Roll using your Fantom 0. It is quite simple really; just record or import a pattern, select edit and then Piano Roll. Inside the Piano Roll you can scroll vertically horizontally, change the zoom, move notes, erase notes, change notes duration, change notes velocity… and while you can use the traditional cursor keys you can take advantage of the touch screen for drag and drop… wow! I hope you enjoy and do not forget to subscribe.

Roland Fantom - Record your guitar as an instrument

Image
In this tutorial we are going to explain how to record your guitar (or it could be another instrument) using your Fantom 0. You simply connect your instrument to the Mic/Line input and adjust the volume at the rear panel of the Fantom. Next comes the fun; there are almost 100 effects inside the Fantom that you can use. Indeed if you are for example in a band and you are a guitar player you can connect your guitar to a Fantom, set your effects and play along… this is so easy and fantastic. We are also going to demonstrate how to sample your guitar to keyboard, which will create a sample that will be used inside the Fantom and saved as a wave inside a user preset. During the demonstration I will show you how you can normalise the sample, truncate parts that are not needed and also change the start play position of the sample. Sample to keyboard allows you to create a new instrument; of course when you play different keys of your new instrument, the Fantom will use the original note...
